2004 Syrah

Taking dark red wine to a new level, this Syrah grown on the very summit of the mountain is virtually opaque. Dried cherry and raspberry, white pepper and leather aromas precede a virtual flood across the palate. Rich body and fine tannins, which interplay with the natural acidity of mountain grown grapes, result in a fantastically expressive Syrah.

The 2004 Syrah's dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by sweet aromas of blackberries and cassis, lively, fresh acidity, medium body, and a stylish personality. Consume it over the next 4-5 years.

This big, bold, highly ripened wine leads with intense, decidedly layered aromas of blackberries, creamy oak, peppery spice and a distinctly gamy note. Its extracted flavors emphasize oak and very ripe fruit and are a bit less expressive in varietal spice than the nose, and its youth works against at the moment. Its coarse edges and heat are set against its considerable depth and richness that will carry it easily for the six to eight years of cellar aging that it needs.

Medium to medium-dark purplish ruby; attractive, intense, fragrant, leathery, spicy, blackberry fruit aroma with hints of sassafras and roasted coffee bean; full body; forward, rich, supple, ripe blackberry fruit flavors with good depth and concentration; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Approachable now. Highly Recommended.

An amazing wine that keeps sprinkling out new flavors. Firm, dense and marked by grapey Syrah flavors built around wild berry, pepper, spice, anise, sage and espresso bean. The tannins tighten up on the finish, giving it excellent structure. Drink now through 2012.

Good medium ruby. Wild aromas of roasted black raspberry, pepper, bacon fat and nutty oak. Silky and fine-grained, with a gamey syrah character that's currently overshadowed by an impression of strong acidity. Very intensely flavored and firm but a bit youthfully disjointed at the moment. This plot is on the crest of the hill, at the top of Spring Mountain, on quartz rock, with water stress putting a cap on vine vigor.
